Experienced Brewer - Kereru Brewing Co
Kereru Brewing Co is a small, independent and family-owned brewery in New Zealand. We are a diverse, close-knit crew that work out of an old carpet and flooring factory in Upper Hutt. We produce beers of uncompromising quality with a spirit of independence that is demonstrated by our many trophy-winning beers. We were awarded the title of AIBA Champion Small International Brewery for 2018.
We are seeking a seasoned Brewer to join our team in a full-time, permanent capacity. The ideal candidate could have significant previous commercial brewing experience, but must be a person with a positive attitude, great communication and organisational skills and be a strong a team player.
You should have a passion for flavour and have a good tasting palate. You might also enjoy cooking and be up for collaborating on beer recipe design.
Our production team works closely together and with management to produce the best beer possible. We operate with a comprehensive Custom Food Control Plan and this forms the foundation on which our meticulous attention to detail, best practices and quality control are built. Our brewers are responsible for everything that goes into brewing beer: managing inventory of malt, hops, adjuncts and processing aids, keeping accurate and clear records of our production processes, and a super-clean, safe and friendly work environment.
You should have worked at one or more commercial breweries and be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the entire brewing process from inputs and purchasing, right through wort production, fermentation, yeast management, transfers, filtration, cellaring, packaging and record keeping. You should be familiar with beer faults, how they can occur and how best to avoid them. You also have a good situational awareness and are able to work well both with and around others when things get busy.
Did we mention that we run a safe and tidy operation? Keeping everything sanitary, clean and presentable is important. Working safely with harsh chemicals, and all the other brewery hazards is critical.
You should be fit and able bodied and be ready for a physically demanding role. Brewing qualifications are nice, but not essential, as is experience with plant similar to ours. Good lab skills and clear handwriting are also a plus. We use a number of different Anton-Paar tools to monitor our processes. A NZ Forklift license is a bonus, as is a current, clean NZ driver’s license. You must be able to work in New Zealand long-term and have either NZ Citizenship, or residency in hand.
Most importantly we are looking for someone who will be a delight to work with and who will enjoy being a part of our team making the best beers possible.
Please send CVs and cover letters to email@example.com. Applications for this position close 25 January 2019.
