Assistant Brewer - Brothers Brewing

Brothers Beer is excited to be on the hunt for an experienced brewer to join the family. This will be no walk in the park, but it will be incredibly rewarding!

The Assistant Brewer will be a senior leader of the brewery’s production team leading a trainee brewer, an apprentice brewer, a cellar assistant and a packaging operator, supports the Head Brewer and reports directly to the Brewery Manager. The Assistant Brewer is responsible for supporting/running brewery operations in a safe and an efficient manner and plays a key role in the achievement of department goals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintaining a clean and safe production environment;

Acting and communicating in a professional manner being a role model to other brewers/workers;

Work closely with Head Brewer to foster a culture of positive teamwork, strong work ethic, and an unwavering focus on the core purpose and principles of the business;

Brewing, Cleaning, Cellaring, Centrifuging and packaging at both Mt Eden and City Works Depot;

CIPs on brewing system and vessels;

Occasional brewing and/or brewery tour for customers on weekdays or weekends (incl. off-site);

Training and working with other team members;

Being a great ambassador of our brands to customers, events and the media;

Following the production plan, overtime and weekend roster (normally 40 hours/week expected);

KEY ATTRIBUTES:

Strong mechanical and problem-solving aptitude;

Good understanding of malts and hops chemistry and beer styles;

Knowledge in bar/portable tap units (kegging)- cleaning and maintenance;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and record keeping;

Technical and practical knowledge of brewery operations, including but not limited to:

- Running and taking care of 18HL, 4.5HL and 0.5HL brewing systems;

- Understanding of various malts and hops characteristics and their chemistry;

- Quality Control, Cellaring and Packaging;

- Keeping vessels, pumps, centrifuge, flexi hoses and empty kegs clean;

- Yeast management (cone to cone pitching), fermentation theory/practice;


PREREQUISITES:

Internationally recognised brewing qualifications (diploma or certificate)- not a must though (IBD, VLB & etc.);

3 plus years experience in brewing;

Bachelor's degree in food technology or similar (microbiology, chemical engineering)- not a must though;

Positive can-do attitude and time keeping- a must!


Based in Auckland, Full Time role.
